Celtic Cat in Sterling Silver Pendant

A watchful cat stands in profile with its head turned toward the viewer, its body covered in finely engraved fur and its tail curling into a tight spiral above its back. Openwork Celtic knot patterns flow through the front and hind legs, breaking up the sculpted silver with narrow spaces that make the interlaced forms easy to see. Darkened recesses around the face, fur, paws, and knotwork bring additional definition to the small-scale carving.

Cats are often associated with independence, curiosity, intuition, and mystery, while Celtic knotwork can suggest continuity and interconnectedness. Here, those ideas come together naturally in a cat that looks alert and self-possessed rather than decorative for decoration’s sake. The turned head is a particularly good detail: it gives the pendant the unmistakable impression that the cat has noticed something you haven’t.
