Five slender strings cross the open center of this sterling silver Celtic harp pendant, framed by polished contours and recessed detailing. Along the curved outer frame, repeating figure-eight loops form an infinity-like pattern within the knotwork, while the tapered base and dimensional sidework give the pendant the structure of a miniature harp rather than a flat outline.
The triangular harp has a long tradition throughout the Celtic nations of northwestern Europe. It is known as the cláirseach in Irish, clàrsach in Scottish Gaelic, telenn in Breton, and telyn in Welsh. Historic Irish and Scottish versions were commonly wire-strung instruments played by highly trained musicians, including harpers connected with Gaelic noble households.
